Nearly all the materials found in the Bob Dylan Archive are unique, previously unavailable, or previously unknown. This book contains some of the best of the archive, with never-before-published images of carefully curated Dylan draft lyrics, writings, drawings, photographs and other ephemera.

In addition, a group of esteemed writers and artists were asked to choose a single item from the Archive that enticed, perplexed, or galvanized them and write about it exclusively for this book. Contributors include Peter Carey, John Doe, Raymond Foye, Joy Harjo, Richard Hell, Clinton Heylin, Alan Licht, Greil Marcus, Allison Moorer, Michael and Griffin Ondaatje, Gregory Pardlo, Amanda Petrusich, Tom Piazza, Lee Ranaldo, Alex Ross, Robert Rubin, Ed Ruscha, Lucy Sante, Jeff Slate, Greg Tate and many others. Sean Wilentz writes the introduction to the book and Douglas Brinkley provides the epilogue.

The book is also a visual trove of nearly 1,000 stunning images by more than 90 photographers and film directors, creatively curated from hundreds of thousands of documents held by the Archive. It forms a multifaceted, collective portrait of Dylan from childhood to the present day. It is also a kaleidoscopic view of an entire era in American cultural history portraying Dylan with contemporary luminaries of music, literature, politics and art.

“Quite simply, BOB DYLAN: MIXING UP THE MEDICINE is unlike any book on Bob Dylan ever produced.” says Mark Davidson, Curator and Director of the Bob Dylan Archive, who wrote and edited the book along with archivist Parker Fishel.

The book is beautifully designed and produced with the singular production quality for which Callaway is renowned, making it an irresistible collectible that will be treasured by Dylan fans and book lovers everywhere.

BOB DYLAN: MIXING UP THE MEDICINE is poised to be one of the leading book titles for Fall 2023.
